The New York Knicks closed last season ranked fifth in offensive efficiency at 117.3 points per 100 possessions, yet production slowed as the year wore on. Before the All-Star break the club averaged 119.9, but that figure dipped to 112.3 afterward, placing the team 22nd in the league. Their 112.7 rating in the playoffs was the lowest among the four conference finalists.
Backup guard Miles McBride believes new head coach Mike Brown will jolt the attack back to form. “Last year we might’ve gotten a little bit stagnant,” McBride said. “What he’s been preaching is playing with pace, and it’s not just the guy with the ball—everybody is a possibility to score.”
McBride added that Brown has emphasized extensive player movement and a flexible offensive framework. “He’s giving us the foundation, and we’re just going to work off it,” the third-year guard noted. “I’m really excited to see where it takes us.”
Brunson lauds Towns
With the one-year anniversary of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade approaching, point guard Jalen Brunson told Games Hub the former Timberwolves center has been “a phenomenal addition” on and off the floor. “What he brings to the locker room for us is special,” Brunson said.
Free-agent updates
According to SNY, veteran free agents Dennis Smith Jr. and Alex Len impressed during informal scrimmages Monday. Undrafted center Trey Jemison remains on the team’s radar as New York finalizes invitations to training camp. The club also showed interest in bringing back sharpshooter Matt Ryan; a new agreement was reached Tuesday morning.
Anunoby’s potential role shift
Fred Katz of The Athletic examined how Brown’s up-tempo plans could influence forward OG Anunoby. Katz reported that the coaching change might allow Anunoby to play faster and shoulder additional offensive responsibilities.
