New York Knicks players collected bonuses of more than $530,000 each for winning the NBA Cup, and several veterans are channeling part of that payout to team support staff. Guard Josh Hart said the choice to give back was easy, noting, “Some of those people don’t get a bonus and they’re working to make sure we’re at the top of the game.” Fellow guard Jalen Brunson and additional teammates are making similar donations.
Brunson’s Season-Best Night
After a loss to Philadelphia, the Knicks bounced back on Sunday with a 132–125 victory over the Miami Heat. Brunson erupted for a season-high 47 points. “He’s a special player,” forward Karl-Anthony Towns said. Head coach Mike Brown again pushed Brunson’s MVP case, adding, “That’s what MVPs are supposed to do on nights like tonight.”
McBride Nearing Return
Reserve guard Miles McBride, sidelined since spraining an ankle on Dec. 7, has resumed on-court work and is cleared for full contact, according to the team. He has yet to rejoin practice because of a demanding game schedule.
Clarkson Provides Instant Offense
Jordan Clarkson, signed for the minimum after a July buyout with Utah, is averaging 13 points over his past four appearances. “Immediate spark, immediate offensive presence, playing really well defensively as well,” Brunson said of the veteran guard.
Kolek Learning from Brunson
Rookie backup point guard Tyler Kolek credited Brunson for taking him “under his wing,” saying he is studying the All-Star’s workouts and tendencies to speed up his own development.
