New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet left Saturday’s matchup against the Orlando Magic just minutes into the opening quarter after his right shoulder appeared to dislocate.
Head coach Mike Brown told reporters post-game that Shamet will receive a complete medical evaluation “in the next couple of days” to determine the extent of the damage.
The injury occurred when Shamet collided with a screen set by Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. Video of the play showed the 28-year-old immediately clutching his shoulder before heading to the locker room.
The same shoulder cost Shamet significant time last year; a preseason dislocation in 2024 led to his release before he rejoined New York late in December on a veteran minimum contract. This season he is playing on a non-guaranteed $2.3 million deal that becomes fully guaranteed Jan. 10.
Shamet had averaged 9.9 points through 14 appearances entering Saturday, shooting 45.2 percent overall and 42.4 percent from beyond the arc. Saturday marked his third straight start—and sixth overall—as the Knicks navigate multiple backcourt injuries. He had reached double figures in four of his previous five outings, highlighted by a 36-point performance in Wednesday’s win over Miami.
With Shamet sidelined, rookie forward Mohamed Diawara absorbed extra first-quarter minutes, while fellow rookies Tyler Kolek and Pacome Dadiet also saw first-half action. All three could see increased roles depending on Shamet’s prognosis.
