Knicks discuss Pacome Dadiet deals as they seek room to keep Brogdon and Shamet

The New York Knicks have contacted rival front offices about second-year forward Pacome Dadiet while exploring ways to fit both veteran camp invitees Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet onto the regular-season roster, league sources told The Athletic.
Brogdon and Shamet are considered the leading candidates among the Knicks’ non-guaranteed veterans to earn spots, but the franchise sits just below the second-apron hard cap and would need to shed salary to keep both guards.
Dadiet, the No. 25 pick in the 2024 draft, has impressed the organization during the offseason. Even so, his $2.85 million salary makes him the most practical trade chip; fellow 2024 draftee Tyler Kolek earns $2.19 million, giving New York less financial relief if he were moved. Executives around the league indicated Dadiet would likely return no more than one or two second-round selections.
New York currently has 12 players on guaranteed contracts, plus Brogdon, Shamet, Garrison Mathews, Alex Len, Matt Ryan, and rookie Mohamed Diawara on Exhibit 9/10 agreements. Retaining Diawara and one veteran would leave the Knicks about $148,000 under the hard cap. Trading Dadiet without taking salary back and then keeping Diawara and two veterans would increase that cushion to roughly $700,000.
If instead the club moved Kolek and kept Diawara alongside two veterans, the buffer would shrink to about $44,000. Moving center Ariel Hukporti would not create enough space for an additional minimum deal. Guard Miles McBride is technically another option, but league sources said the Knicks expect him to hold a regular rotation role and are unlikely to include him in talks.
Should New York fail to find a deal before opening night, the team could carry only one of Brogdon or Shamet into the season, then continue searching for trades later to reopen flexibility and potentially re-sign the other veteran or another free agent.
