Knicks Bring In Peter Patton as New Shooting Coach

The New York Knicks have hired Peter Patton to oversee shooting development, league sources told The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III.

Patton, 50, carries nearly a decade of NBA experience in the specialty role. He worked with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2016 to 2018 and then spent five seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. In 2023, he joined the Chicago Bulls as director of player development and remained there for the past two campaigns.

The Bulls opted in April not to renew Patton’s contract, a decision that reportedly frustrated several members of their roster. Guards Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, along with Josh Giddey and rookie Matas Buzelis, were said to have made notable shooting strides under Patton and publicly credited him for their progress.

His arrival continues the remake of New York’s bench staff under new head coach Mike Brown. While holdovers such as assistant Rick Brunson remain, the Knicks have added several newcomers, including associate head coach Chris Jent and defensive coordinator Brendan O’Connor.

Patton’s start date and contract details were not disclosed.
