The New York Knicks have appointed two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown as head coach, moving on from Tom Thibodeau after last season’s trip to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Brown already filling out bench

Brown has begun assembling his staff, adding several new assistants. USC head coach Eric Musselman—who has longstanding ties to Brown and newly hired assistant Brendan O’Connor—told the New York Post the Knicks are getting a coach known for meticulous preparation.

“He is super-detailed, super-organized,” Musselman said. “That year with the Lakers, his playbook had to be color-coded. He’s got a little bit of an NFL, detail-oriented mindset. Training camp, the drills and the precision—that was real detailed as well.”

Musselman added that Brown’s experience leading LeBron James in Cleveland, guiding the Lakers, and winning a title as an assistant in Golden State positions him well for New York’s high-profile market.

Final roster spot still open

The Knicks have one vacancy left—their 14th roster slot—heading into training camp. According to New York Post reporter Stefan Bondy, the club has shown interest in free-agent guards Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet, and Ben Simmons. Bondy noted, however, that league sources are divided on how serious New York’s pursuit of Simmons might be.

Speculation around LeBron trade

As Brown’s arrival sparks fresh conversation about New York’s direction, New York Daily News writer Kristian Winfield examined a hypothetical deal that would send LeBron James to Madison Square Garden. The scenario remains purely speculative—there is no indication James will request a move or that the Los Angeles Lakers are willing to consider one.

The Knicks open training camp this fall with a new coaching voice on the sideline and at least one more personnel decision on the horizon.
