The Sacramento Kings are evaluating trade possibilities with the Feb. 5 deadline approaching, league sources told Marc J. Spears of Andscape.
Sacramento has dropped 15 of its last 18 contests — including seven of the past eight — and sits at 6-20. Spears reports a growing disconnect between segments of the roster and head coach Doug Christie’s staff.
Christie, 53, assumed the job midway through last season after Mike Brown’s dismissal and guided the club to a 27-24 finish. Despite a play-in tournament exit and a subsequent front-office overhaul, new general manager Scott Perry retained Christie and made him the permanent coach.
Early this season, Christie publicly questioned the team’s effort, at one point labeling a performance “shameful.” He has recently toned down public criticism while the losses have continued.
Perry told The Athletic’s Sam Amick last month that he has “complete confidence” in Christie, suggesting a coaching change is not on the table. Spears notes that roster moves could precede any decision about the bench.
Christie’s contract is guaranteed for two years at roughly $2 million per season, well below the league average for head coaches, giving the organization financial flexibility if it opts for a change later.
