Sacramento weighs options with injured Sabonis as trade deadline approaches

The Sacramento Kings are staring at a tight timetable after learning that center Domantas Sabonis will miss at least four to five more weeks while he recovers from a partially torn meniscus in his left knee.
NBA reporter Marc Stein of The Stein Line noted that the projected return window could push the 27-year-old beyond the league’s trade deadline on Feb. 5, now roughly six-and-a-half weeks away. With their top interior player unavailable and the standings in flux, the Kings have yet to signal whether they will stay the course or initiate roster changes.
League sources told Stein that if Sacramento chooses a reset, the front office would rather explore deals involving DeMar DeRozan or Zach LaVine. Sabonis, however, presents a more complicated scenario. Management has not indicated the three-time All-Star is available, but that position could shift if the club’s results worsen in his absence.
Should the Kings opt for a full overhaul, Sabonis would instantly become one of the market’s most attractive names. The 6-foot-11 forward-center has been productive and generally durable when healthy, and he is under contract beyond this season—factors that would likely generate league-wide interest.
For the moment, Sacramento remains in wait-and-see mode, monitoring Sabonis’s recovery, the standings, and the shrinking calendar before determining its next move.
