Kings Expect Sabonis to Miss at Least Another Month

Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis will remain sidelined for a minimum of four to five additional weeks as he continues to recover from a partially torn meniscus in his left knee, the club announced Friday.
The 29-year-old experienced knee soreness following a Nov. 16 matchup in San Antonio and underwent an MRI that revealed the tear. Sacramento’s initial timeline called for a reevaluation after three to four weeks; Friday’s update came just over a month later and sets the next check-up for mid-to-late January.
Sabonis has already missed 16 games, making him ineligible for major postseason awards under the NBA’s new 65-game threshold. In 11 appearances before the injury, the Lithuanian big man averaged 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals across 33.2 minutes. He has led the league in rebounding each of the past three seasons, earning three All-Star selections and two All-NBA nods during that stretch.
Sacramento sits at 6-21, one of the league’s worst records, and trade speculation around Sabonis has persisted throughout the 2025-26 campaign. A return on or after Jan. 16 would leave roughly three weeks before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, diminishing the likelihood of an in-season deal.
With Sabonis and backup center Drew Eubanks (thumb fracture) unavailable, rookie second-round pick Maxime Raynaud has taken over in the middle. The French seven-footer posted career highs of 29 points and 11 rebounds in Thursday’s overtime loss to Portland.
