The Golden State Warriors are receiving fresh inquiries about Jonathan Kuminga, but league sources say the front office is not rushing to move the 22-year-old forward once he becomes trade-eligible on January 15. The NBA trade deadline is set for February 5.
According to a report by Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the market for Kuminga has cooled since his restricted free agency last summer. The forward has fallen out of Golden State’s rotation and has recently been held out of games while the club explores options.
Teams showing interest
Sacramento Kings: Sacramento remains “high” on Kuminga. However, the Kings doubt a straight two-team deal is realistic and may face similar hurdles in multi-team scenarios because general manager Scott Perry is not willing to include a first-round pick, sources told Fischer.
Chicago Bulls: Chicago previously checked on Kuminga and is still weighing whether to pursue him, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Guard Coby White, an impending free agent, has been mentioned frequently in trade chatter, though the Warriors are not believed to have interest in the 25-year-old.
Los Angeles Lakers: Los Angeles contacted Golden State about Kuminga during the offseason and continues to monitor his situation. The Lakers are seeking a 3-and-D wing, a role Kuminga does not perfectly fit, but they have not ruled out another inquiry.
Teams that have cooled
Phoenix Suns: Phoenix showed interest in the offseason but is no longer pursuing the former No. 7 overall pick.
Dallas Mavericks: Dallas initiated discussions centered on Anthony Davis before the star center’s injury. With Davis now unlikely to be dealt, the Mavericks are not expected to revisit Kuminga talks.
Washington Wizards: Washington was once viewed as a potential destination when Corey Kispert—long admired by Golden State—was on the roster. Kispert’s trade to Atlanta in the Trae Young deal removed the Wizards from serious consideration.
Kuminga, drafted seventh overall in 2021, is averaging 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 18.8 minutes this season.
