Longtime ESPN writer and analytics authority Kevin Pelton is joining the Houston Comets as assistant general manager and vice president of analytics, according to multiple reports.

The Comets, currently based in Connecticut, plan to relocate to Houston and begin play there in the 2027-28 WNBA season. Pelton will spend the upcoming year working alongside the existing Connecticut front-office staff, which includes general manager Morgan Tuck and team president Jen Rizzotti, to help guide the transition.

Pelton has been part of ESPN’s basketball coverage since 2013, gaining a following for his data-driven evaluations of trades and free-agent signings. His résumé also features a stint as a statistical consultant for the Indiana Pacers and nearly 10 years covering the Seattle Storm.

His appointment underscores the growing emphasis on analytics across WNBA front offices as clubs look for competitive advantages.
