Kevin Love told TMZ Sports he would choose to represent the Cleveland Cavaliers in Springfield if he is ever selected for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
“If I were ever to make it to go into the Hall of Fame, I would go in as a Cavalier and I think I would take a lot of pride in that,” the 37-year-old forward said. Love added that having his No. 0 lifted to the rafters at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse “would truly be an honor.”
Love spent 8.5 seasons in Cleveland, averaging 15.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He played alongside LeBron James for four of those campaigns and was a key figure on the Cavaliers’ 2016 championship team.
His time with the organization ended in February 2023 after then-coach J.B. Bickerstaff moved him to a reserve role. Love and the front office later agreed to a buyout.
Now a role player with the Utah Jazz, Love has earned praise inside the locker room for his veteran leadership. Although some observers anticipated another buyout that would allow him to join a contender, the forward remains committed to his current team while acknowledging that the end of his career is approaching.
“You start considering your athletic mortality and where you’re at, and what you’re gonna consider doing next,” Love said, noting he thinks about retirement “a lot more than, maybe, five years ago.”
