Veteran forward Kevin Love is slated to be in Salt Lake City when the Utah Jazz open training camp, according to a report from Grant Afseth of RG.org.
Afseth noted that, despite recent speculation about a possible contract buyout, the Jazz have not held substantial discussions on that option. Instead, the organization anticipates Love’s arrival when camp begins.
Love, 37, joined Utah in July via a three-team trade that sent him from the Miami Heat to the Jazz. He is entering the final season of his contract, valued at $4.15 million.
With the Jazz focused on a roster rebuild, Love is unlikely to play heavy minutes, but team officials see value in his leadership and professionalism. His expiring deal could also serve as a flexible trade chip during the season.
In 23 appearances for Miami last year, Love averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds—both career lows.
Whether he ultimately remains in Utah or draws interest from playoff contenders closer to the trade deadline, Love is currently expected to be on hand for the start of camp.
