Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray is expected to miss at least three to four weeks after an MRI revealed a moderate sprain in his left ankle, the team announced Monday.
The injury occurred during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against Milwaukee. Sacramento said the 25-year-old will be re-evaluated in late January.
This is Murray’s third extended absence of the 2025-26 campaign. His season debut was postponed when he underwent surgery in mid-October to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, and he sat out two games in December with a mild calf strain.
The fourth-year forward has appeared in 19 games, averaging 14.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 27.2 percent from three and 78.9 percent at the foul line. His five-year, $140 million rookie-scale extension begins in July.
With Murray out, Keon Ellis started the last two games he missed, and Doug McDermott picked up rotation minutes. Rookie Nique Clifford could also see a larger role.
Murray and center Drew Eubanks both returned ahead of schedule from previous injuries this season, raising hope the forward could beat the initial timeline again. Sacramento enters the week at 8-28 and tracking toward the high end of the draft lottery.
