The NBA is weighing whether to void Kawhi Leonard’s contract with the Los Angeles Clippers as part of an ongoing probe into alleged salary-cap circumvention, according to a report by Tom Haberstroh of Yahoo Sports.

League investigators are examining claims that the bankrupt tree-planting company Aspiration was used to channel improper payments to the 34-year-old forward, potentially violating cap rules. Both Leonard and the Clippers have denied any wrongdoing.

Haberstroh described the possibility of voiding the deal as the league’s “nuclear option.” If enacted, Leonard would become an unrestricted free agent immediately, a scenario that could reshape the playoff picture in the season’s final weeks. Front-office sources cited by Haberstroh identified the Lakers, Warriors, and Knicks as franchises likely to pursue Leonard should he hit the open market.

Other disciplinary measures reportedly under consideration include substantial fines and the forfeiture of future draft picks. With the Clippers already set to host the 2026 All-Star Game at Intuit Dome, several league insiders believe a resolution could arrive soon.

Despite the uncertainty, Leonard remains in peak form. He is averaging a career-best 28.0 points per game this season, has secured his seventh All-Star nod, earned $50 million this year, and is owed $50.3 million in 2024-25.
