Kai Jones Poised to Join Virtus Bologna

Center Kai Jones, 24, is close to signing with Italian powerhouse Virtus Bologna, Sportando’s Alessandro Maggi reported on August 10.
Jones finished the 2024-25 NBA season on a two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks after spending the first part of the year under a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. He appeared in 28 games for L.A. but saw a larger role after joining a short-handed Dallas roster, starting six of 12 contests and averaging 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 21.7 minutes while shooting 83.6% from the field.
Dallas expressed interest in retaining him; however, the club’s roster is expected to be full once Dante Exum re-signs, prompting Jones to pursue a guaranteed opportunity overseas instead of waiting for another NBA opening.
Selected 19th overall in the 2021 draft after two seasons at Texas, Jones spent his first two NBA years with the Charlotte Hornets before being waived and working his way back through the G League. He signed with the Clippers at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Virtus Bologna already features former NBA players Carsen Edwards, Luca Vildoza and Alen Smailagic. The club is also reportedly pursuing veteran forward Kenneth Faried.
