New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado assured fans he is all right after being taken off the floor on a stretcher during Puerto Rico’s 82-77 overtime loss to Argentina in Thursday’s FIBA AmeriCup quarterfinal in Miami.

Alvarado slipped while battling for a rebound in the extra period, landed hard on his tailbone and remained down for several minutes before medical staff transported him from the court. Spectators at Watsco Center fell silent as the 26-year-old was wheeled away.

The injury interrupted a standout performance. Alvarado scored 25 points in 36 minutes, hitting 7 of 15 attempts from three-point range. Despite his effort, Argentina advanced to face Canada in Saturday’s semifinal.

Shortly after the game, the Brooklyn native posted on Instagram: “Appreciate the love, y’all. But your boy good. God got me.” No formal medical update has been released, but his message indicated the issue may not be serious.

Alvarado missed nearly two months last season with a hamstring strain yet returned to appear in 56 games, registering career highs of 10.3 points and 4.6 assists. He begins the first year of a two-season, $9 million extension this fall, earning $4.5 million in 2024-25 with a player option for the same amount in 2025-26.
