The New Orleans Pelicans announced Friday that guard Jordan Poole has a mild strain in his left quadriceps and will be re-evaluated in seven to 10 days.
Poole logged 27 minutes Tuesday against Charlotte but sat out Wednesday’s game in Dallas, his first absence of the season, after experiencing soreness in his left knee. Follow-up testing determined the discomfort stemmed from the quad injury.
The 26-year-old is averaging 17.3 points and 3.4 assists through seven games since arriving from Washington in an offseason trade, though he has shot just 5-for-25 over his last two outings.
Saddiq Bey started in Poole’s place Wednesday, and Jose Alvarado along with Jordan Hawkins saw increased minutes off the bench. Bey is expected to stay with the first unit while Poole recovers.
New Orleans faces San Antonio on Saturday, Phoenix on Monday, Portland on Wednesday and the Los Angeles Lakers next Friday, leaving open the possibility that Poole misses only a brief stretch if his next evaluation is positive.
The Pelicans are already without Zion Williamson, who is sidelined by a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring. Despite early injuries, the team has won two straight after beginning the season 0-6.
