Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has officially asked to be traded now that he is eligible to be moved, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.
Rumors about the 21-year-old’s desire for a new team have circulated for months. Over the summer, the former No. 7 overall pick explored potential sign-and-trade scenarios with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns while he was a restricted free agent. None of those discussions produced an offer sheet or deal that pushed Golden State to let him go.
Kuminga eventually re-signed on a two-year, $46.8 million contract that includes a team option for the 2026-27 season. The agreement preserved flexibility for both sides but did not resolve his on-court role.
He opened the 2024-25 campaign in the starting lineup, shifted to the bench in November and fell completely out of head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation by mid-December. Kuminga has not played since Dec. 18.
With his trade restrictions now lifted, the Warriors must decide whether to turn the deteriorating relationship into assets or continue holding a player who no longer sees a future in San Francisco.
