NEW YORK — Five-time All-Star guard John Wall has officially retired from professional basketball, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday.

Wall, 34, entered the league as the first overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft and spent nine seasons with the Washington Wizards before shorter stints with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. He last appeared in an NBA game during the 2022-23 season.

The North Carolina native played 647 regular-season contests, posting career averages of 18.7 points, 8.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Wall sat out while Houston explored trade possibilities that never materialized. He returned the following year with the Clippers, appearing in 34 games.
