Los Angeles — Head coach JJ Redick credited forward Rui Hachimura for a significant share of the Lakers’ success after Friday’s victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
“We are now 42-18 when Rui plays, which is a 57-58-win pace,” Redick told reporters. “That tells you all you need to know. His ability to space the floor, his size, it’s important for our team and our rotation.”
The Lakers have leaned on Hachimura’s shooting range, versatility and secondary scoring while he shares the court with stars Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves. According to Redick, the club’s record when Hachimura is available highlights his value to the rotation.
Hachimura has missed time this season, something Redick said is “less than ideal.” When he does suit up, Los Angeles’ offense and defense “tend to click,” the coach noted.
With the regular season winding down and playoff positioning at stake, the Lakers view Hachimura’s presence as a key component of their depth. Redick suggested that keeping the 26-year-old forward on the floor could be as critical as any other factor in the weeks ahead.
