Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler had a successful reconstruction of the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Monday in Los Angeles, the team announced.
The 36-year-old suffered the injury on January 19 against the Miami Heat when he landed awkwardly after contact while receiving a pass from Brandin Podziemski. Davion Mitchell was whistled for a foul on the play.
According to the Warriors, Butler will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season but is expected to make a full recovery. An additional update on his progress is scheduled for early next season.
In 38 appearances this year, Butler averaged 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals across 31.1 minutes, shooting 51.9 percent from the field, 37.6 percent from three-point range and 86.4 percent from the foul line.
A five-time All-NBA selection, Butler previously guided the Miami Heat to NBA Finals berths in 2020 and 2023 and an Eastern Conference finals trip in 2022. He is in the second season of a maximum-salary deal that runs through 2026/27, when he is set to earn $56.8 million.
