Cleveland, OH — Former NBA guard Jeff Teague said on the “520” podcast that Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Evan Mobley has likely reached the height of his potential, even after the 24-year-old produced his strongest season to date.
Mobley averaged a career-best 18.5 points in 2024-25, shot 37 percent from three-point range and anchored a defense that finished inside the league’s top 10. His performance earned him Defensive Player of the Year honors and a place on the All-NBA Second Team.
“That’s probably the best he gonna get,” Teague told the podcast. “He can probably become a better shooter, but his body type — he don’t have a Giannis build. The only step he could take is like Giannis. He can’t come (back) that physically imposing to just run people over and go dunk. But his aggressiveness and the way he plays just doesn’t mirror Giannis. He don’t move as fluid as Giannis.”
Mobley, drafted third overall in 2021, is expected to carry a larger offensive load early next season while guard Darius Garland recovers from toe surgery. Team observers have noted that surpassing 20 points per game is attainable if his usage increases.
Whether or not Mobley adds a new layer to his game, he remains a central figure for a Cavaliers roster aiming to build on last season’s defensive success.
