The Utah Jazz have released veterans Lonzo Ball and Chris Boucher, according to the NBA.com transactions log.
Utah accepted Ball’s $10 million contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this season, receiving two second-round draft picks in the process. The 28-year-old guard was absorbed with an existing traded player exception. Once the standard waiver period ends in a couple of days, Ball will be free to sign with any club except Cleveland.
Boucher, a Canadian forward/center, reached Utah through a separate move designed to reduce Boston’s payroll. That trade sent an additional second-round pick to the Jazz, who took in the 33-year-old on a minimum-salary exception. League rules prevent Boucher from rejoining the Celtics this season.
Utah had enough space below the luxury-tax threshold to accommodate both deals before ultimately waiving the players.
