The Utah Jazz have added rookie guard John Tonje on a two-way contract, according to the NBA’s official transaction log. The move was completed on August 26 at 2:25 p.m. CST.
Tonje, 24, was selected with the No. 53 overall pick in June, a choice Utah obtained earlier from the Los Angeles Clippers. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard spent four seasons at Colorado State before transferring to Missouri in 2023. A season-ending foot injury limited him to eight games there, but a medical redshirt allowed one final year of eligibility.
Healthy again in 2024-25, Tonje delivered a breakout season at Wisconsin. Over 37 games, he averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 31.1 minutes, shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent at the free-throw line. He earned consensus second-team All-American honors and a spot on the All-Big Ten first team.
With Tonje’s signing, the Jazz have filled their last open two-way slot. He joins Oscar Tshiebwe and Elijah Harkless as the franchise’s two-way players. Utah now has 19 players under contract, two below the NBA’s offseason maximum.
