Utah is signaling a new level of openness to moving forward Lauri Markkanen, league sources told Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.
Jazz Listening on Markkanen
The 28-year-old forward, due $46.4 million this season, is drawing renewed interest after Utah reportedly rejected a Golden State offer in the summer of 2024. Markkanen averaged 19.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and hit 87.6% of his free throws in 47 games last season. Despite his efficiency, the Jazz finished an NBA-worst 17-65 and remain in full rebuild mode, making the veteran a logical target for contenders. Markkanen, previously with Chicago and Cleveland, does not have a no-trade clause.
Hornets Add Eric Dixon on Exhibit 10
Charlotte filled the final spot on its preseason roster by signing undrafted rookie Eric Dixon to an Exhibit 10 contract. The 6-foot-8 left-hander led Division I in scoring last year at Villanova, posting 23.3 points and 5.1 rebounds with .451/.407/.813 shooting splits and earning third-team All-American honors. ESPN ranked him No. 44 among draft prospects.
Dixon initially agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Lakers after the draft, but foot concerns prevented a two-way slot and he was later waived. If he spends at least 60 days with Greensboro, the Hornets’ G League affiliate, he can receive a bonus of up to $85,300. Charlotte’s three two-way positions are already occupied.
Pelicans Bring In Carton and Mitchell
The Pelicans completed their training-camp roster by signing guard D.J. Carton and forward Trhae Mitchell to Exhibit 10 agreements, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith.
Carton opened last season on a two-way contract with Toronto, appearing in eight NBA games and totaling 14 points and six assists before being waived in December. Mitchell spent 2023-24 with New Orleans’ G League affiliate in Birmingham, averaging 7.6 points across 50 contests.
Both players are expected to be waived before the regular season and rejoin the Squadron, where they would be eligible for Exhibit 10 bonuses by remaining at least 60 days.
