Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang will have his injured left foot examined again in 10 to 14 days, the club announced on Saturday.
The 32-year-old has been sidelined by a stress reaction in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot since arriving from the Boston Celtics. Utah acquired Niang and two second-round picks in exchange for rookie second-rounder RJ Luis, a move that also helped Boston reduce payroll.
Niang is no stranger to Salt Lake City; he spent five seasons with the Jazz after debuting with the Indiana Pacers. Last year he split time between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks, posting averages of 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 40.6% from three-point range.
Despite Utah’s 5-10 start, club officials have signaled they intend to accelerate their push back into playoff contention. Niang is expected to bolster both the locker room and the rotation at power forward once cleared.
The Jazz have been thin up front since starting center Walker Kessler was ruled out for the season. Niang could slot alongside or replace veteran Kevin Love when he returns, providing much-needed depth in the frontcourt.
