Jazz anticipate Georges Niang’s return within two weeks

Salt Lake City, UT — The Utah Jazz announced that forward Georges Niang will undergo another medical evaluation in 10 to 14 days as he recovers from a stress reaction in his left foot.

The fourth-metatarsal injury has sidelined Niang since Utah acquired him last month in a trade that sent rookie RJ Luis to the Boston Celtics, giving Boston some financial flexibility.

Niang, 30, is back with the franchise where he spent five productive seasons. Last year, split between Cleveland and Atlanta, the 6-foot-7 veteran averaged 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds while converting 40.6 percent of his three-point attempts.

Team officials expect him to fill a meaningful role once cleared, citing both his locker-room presence and his ability to stretch the floor at power forward.

Utah enters the week at 5-10 and is already without starting center Walker Kessler for the remainder of the season, increasing the need for frontcourt depth.

When healthy, Niang is projected to line up alongside Kevin Love or anchor the second unit for head coach Will Hardy.
