Jayson Tatum Clears Full-Contact Hurdle in Achilles Rehab, Celtics Remain Cautious

Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has begun taking part in full-speed, five-on-five scrimmages as he works back from a ruptured Achilles tendon, ESPN insider Shams Charania reported Wednesday on NBA Today.

The session marks the most demanding on-court work Tatum has completed since suffering the injury during the 2025 Eastern Conference semifinals. According to Charania, the Celtics have allowed the 27-year-old star to dictate the pace of his comeback, emphasizing that he will not return to game action until he “feels like himself.”

Boston’s medical and coaching staffs have adopted a conservative approach throughout the rehabilitation process. Achilles injuries are typically slow to heal, and the organization has stressed the importance of comfort and confidence before setting an official return date.

While no timetable has been announced, full-contact scrimmages are widely viewed as the final major step before a player is cleared for regular-season minutes. Until then, the Celtics plan to maintain their patient strategy as Tatum continues to rebuild trust in the repaired tendon.
