Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown believes teammate Jayson Tatum could rejoin the lineup before the season ends, despite Tatum’s ongoing recovery from a torn Achilles.
Brown voiced his optimism during a livestream conversation with rapper DDG earlier this week. Citing Tatum’s history of quick recoveries, Brown said, “He’ll probably break the record for fastest recovery in Achilles history or some (expletive). I wouldn’t put it past him.” The remarks were first reported by MassLive’s Souichi Terada.
The Celtics organization has taken a cautious public stance, declining to issue a target date and emphasizing that Tatum will not be cleared until medical staff deem him fully ready. Brown’s comments, however, reflect the confidence within the locker room in Tatum’s work ethic and rehabilitation approach.
Brown did not play in Saturday’s road game against the Toronto Raptors because of a non-COVID illness. One night earlier, he delivered one of his most complete performances of the season, finishing with 30 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 35 minutes.
Boston has not ruled out Tatum’s return, but no definitive decision has been made. For now, the Celtics continue to monitor the All-Star forward’s progress while maintaining that his health remains the top priority.
