Jazz Forward Jaren Jackson Jr. Has Knee Surgery, Out for Season

Utah Jazz forward Jaren Jackson Jr. underwent surgery Tuesday morning in Salt Lake City to remove a localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) growth from his left knee, the team announced in a press release.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Travis Maak, the Jazz’s head orthopedic team physician. According to the club, the 26-year-old will begin rehabilitation immediately and is scheduled for a medical reevaluation in four weeks. Despite that checkpoint, Utah said Jackson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season but should be fully cleared for training camp this fall.

Jackson arrived from the Memphis Grizzlies at this month’s trade deadline and appeared in three games for Utah before being sidelined, averaging 22.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals in 24.0 minutes per contest.

The PVNS growth was detected via MRI during Jackson’s post-trade physical. After consultations involving the player, his representatives and multiple medical specialists, surgery was deemed necessary. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons notes that PVNS is non-cancerous and does not spread but can progressively damage bone and cause arthritis if left untreated, typically requiring surgical removal.

With Jackson sidelined, second-year forward Cody Williams — who started 15 consecutive games before Jackson’s debut, returned to a reserve role during Jackson’s brief stint and rejoined the starting five last Thursday — is expected to remain in the opening lineup after the All-Star break.
