The Cleveland Cavaliers have labeled guard James Harden as questionable for Wednesday night’s road matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks after X-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of the distal phalanx in his right thumb.
Harden sustained the injury during Tuesday’s victory over the New York Knicks and was evaluated immediately afterward. The fracture affects his non-shooting hand—he is left-handed—which the club believes lessens the likelihood of an extended absence.
According to the team, the 34-year-old will continue to receive treatment and will be re-examined before tip-off in Milwaukee, leaving open the possibility he could appear in the second game of the back-to-back set.
Since being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers, Harden has averaged 18.9 points and 8.0 assists while shooting efficiently from the field. Cleveland has gone 13-2 over its last 15 contests with the former MVP in the lineup.
Head coach Kenny Atkinson credited Harden’s arrival with restoring confidence across the roster. Harden echoed that sentiment after Tuesday’s game, noting the Cavaliers “have a few more notches to get to,” particularly on the defensive end as the regular season winds down.
