The Houston Rockets have assigned sixth-year forward Jae’Sean Tate to their NBA G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the team announced on November 22, 2025.

According to Yahoo Sports reporter Kelly Iko, the move was a mutual decision aimed at giving the 30-year-old additional court time to regain his rhythm. Tate has been a healthy scratch in two of Houston’s last three games and logged just two minutes in the third, despite injuries sidelining fellow forwards Dorian Finney-Smith and Tari Eason.

Tate missed the regular-season opener and began 2025-26 on a minutes restriction after undergoing offseason ankle surgery. A Rocket for all six of his NBA seasons, he re-signed with Houston during the summer on a one-year, minimum-salary contract.

While G League assignments are common for young players and veterans rehabbing injuries, healthy veterans rarely accept the demotion. Tate, however, has appeared in only eight games this season, totaling 41 minutes, and expressed a desire for steady playing time to fine-tune his game.
