The Chicago Bulls have acquired fourth-year guard Jaden Ivey from the Detroit Pistons in a three-team trade that also includes the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

What each team receives

Bulls: Jaden Ivey and veteran point guard Mike Conley
Pistons: Kevin Huerter, Dario Šarić, and a protected 2026 first-round pick swap with Minnesota
Timberwolves: No on-court players; they surrender Conley and the pick swap

Why Chicago made the move

Ivey, the No. 5 selection in the 2022 draft, averaged 16.1 points and 4.4 assists over his first three NBA seasons but has seen limited action since breaking his leg midway through the 2024-25 campaign. In 33 games this season, the 23-year-old is posting 8.2 points in 16.8 minutes for the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons.

With restricted free agency looming in July, the Bulls now hold Ivey’s Bird rights, giving them the option to sign him to a new deal. His arrival crowds a backcourt that already features Josh Giddey, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and Tre Jones, potentially setting the stage for additional moves before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Detroit’s rationale

Detroit swaps the seldom-used Ivey for Huerter, a career 38.2% three-point shooter expected to boost a club that ranks 27th league-wide in made threes per game (11.1) and 21st in accuracy (34.8%). The Pistons must clear a roster spot to add both Huerter and Šarić; it remains unclear whether Šarić—limited to 21 appearances since the start of 2024-25—will remain with the team.

Chicago receives Conley, 38, in the final year of his contract, adding experience behind its young guards. Minnesota, which parts with Conley and the conditional pick swap, does not receive players in return.

The trade is expected to be finalized once all players pass physicals.
