August 5, 2025 — Cairns, Australia. The Cairns Taipans have signed forward Jack McVeigh to a two-year deal that includes a mutual option for the second season, the club announced on Tuesday.
The agreement is valued at $2 million, making the 29-year-old the highest-paid player in Taipans history. According to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc, McVeigh now ranks among the National Basketball League’s top four earners, joining Bryce Cotton, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. and Xavier Cooks as players earning at least $1 million per year.
McVeigh spent the 2024-25 campaign on a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets. He appeared in nine NBA games as a rookie while logging 34 outings for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he averaged 16.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 30.7 minutes. His G League shooting splits were .440 from the field, .370 from three-point range and .875 at the free-throw line.
After the season, the 6-8 forward remained in the United States to play for Atlanta’s Summer League squad. In four games, he posted 14.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest on .588/.455/1.000 shooting in 22.8 minutes, but no NBA offers emerged before he chose to return to the NBL.
