Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is reportedly open to leaving the franchise, and the team is gauging interest around the league, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Multiple sources cited by Fischer described the situation as a “mutually agreed-upon” exploration rather than a demand from either side. The 26-year-old, who has spent his entire career in Memphis, is said to be warming to the idea of a fresh start, mirroring Trae Young’s receptiveness to departing Atlanta.
Morant’s frustration is believed to revolve around head coach Tuomas Iisalo’s rotation patterns, particularly brief stints and wholesale substitutions that he feels disrupt his game rhythm. Despite the tension, the Grizzlies have not committed to a move and are still willing to keep Morant alongside Jaren Jackson Jr.
League executives expect Memphis to prioritize draft assets and young players if a deal materializes. Morant, a two-time All-Star and the 2020 Rookie of the Year, is averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists while shooting 40.1 percent from the field over 18 games this season.
The fourth-year guard is earning $39.4 million in 2023-24 and is under contract through the 2027-28 season. Fischer also reported that members of the Miami Heat have internally discussed whether their organizational structure could help Morant regain peak form should he become available.
Memphis continues to field calls while weighing the possibility of keeping its franchise centerpiece.
