Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant will be sidelined for at least three weeks after suffering a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, the team announced Wednesday.

The injury occurred during Memphis’ home matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. According to the club, Morant will be reevaluated in roughly three weeks.

The setback comes as the Grizzlies sit 12th in the Western Conference, complicating their push for a postseason berth. It could also influence the organization’s strategy ahead of next month’s trade deadline. Earlier reports indicated Memphis had been open to moving Morant, who is owed $87 million over the final two seasons of his five-year max contract and is earning $39,446,090 this year.

Morant had just returned from a calf injury that kept him out more than two weeks. In his two appearances since that absence, he recorded 24 points and 13 assists in a win over Orlando on Sunday, then tallied 23 points, 12 assists and three blocks against Atlanta.

The 24-year-old has played only 20 games this season, averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists.
