LOS ANGELES — An identical Instagram post from LeBron James and teammate Anthony Davis on Tuesday has reignited speculation about James’ long-term plans with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Both stars published a quote from entrepreneur and life coach Jay Shetty that read, “Becoming the best version of yourself comes with a lot of goodbyes.” The message arrived barely six weeks after James exercised his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season, leaving his future beyond that deal unresolved.

James, 40, can enter unrestricted free agency next summer. The Dallas Mavericks have been repeatedly linked to the four-time MVP, a move that would reunite him with former Cleveland running mate Kyrie Irving and, according to league observers, could instantly elevate Dallas to championship-contender status. Davis’ participation in the social-media post has intensified chatter that the All-Star big man might also be open to a change of scenery.

Hachimura Heads Into Contract Year

Rui Hachimura enters the final season of his current deal with an opportunity to secure a long-term extension, The Athletic’s Dan Woike reported in a mailbag column. Although the Lakers are prioritizing salary-cap flexibility for the summer of 2027, Woike noted that Hachimura’s efficiency — better than 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range in each of his two full seasons with Los Angeles — and his improved defense could persuade the front office to invest. Woike added that the forward should benefit from spending an entire season alongside Luka Doncic.

Thiero Expected for Training Camp

Second-round pick Adou Thiero, selected No. 36 overall, missed Summer League while recovering from a college knee injury but has been working out at the Lakers’ facility and is on track for training camp, according to Woike. The 21-year-old power forward was acquired in the seven-team trade that sent Kevin Durant from Phoenix to Houston. Despite a crowded depth chart, Thiero’s defensive versatility could earn him minutes.

Trade Market Quiet — For Now

Los Angeles has 14 players on standard contracts and, per Woike, is unlikely to make additional deals before opening night. The club still controls one first-round pick, one second-round pick and multiple swap options, assets that executives are expected to hold for potential mid-season opportunities.

The Lakers open training camp next month with lingering questions about James’ intentions, Hachimura’s contract outlook and Thiero’s role, but no immediate plans to reshape the roster further.
