Chicago guard Josh Giddey will miss his eighth straight game Wednesday night against the Jazz because of a left hamstring strain, but head coach Billy Donovan said the third-year playmaker is moving closer to a return.
“This is a big week for him,” Donovan told reporters, noting that Giddey has increased his on-court activity during rehab.
The 6’8″ point guard is enjoying a career-best season, averaging 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 9.0 assists while shooting 38.6% from three on 4.8 attempts per game. Chicago enters the Utah matchup at 18-21, going 3-6 without Giddey and 15-15 when he plays.
Collins Still in Walking Boot
Donovan also updated the status of backup center Zach Collins, who has been sidelined since Dec. 27 with a big-toe sprain. The coach expects the veteran to remain in a walking boot for several more weeks and does not anticipate his return before the All-Star break.
Collins was limited to 10 appearances after missing the season’s first 22 games with a fractured wrist suffered in the preseason. He has averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.4 minutes, hitting 42.9% of his three-point attempts.
