The Golden State Warriors will face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday without Stephen Curry (left ankle sprain), Jimmy Butler (illness) and Draymond Green (rest), according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania. All three starters are expected to be evaluated for a possible return in Saturday’s game against the Utah Jazz.
Curry and Butler qualify as “stars” under the NBA’s player participation policy, meaning they could not be held out of a nationally televised contest for rest alone. Green, who does not meet the star threshold, is officially listed as resting. With the lineup depleted, head coach Steve Kerr told 95.7 The Game that forward Jonathan Kuminga is on track to play for the first time in more than two weeks.
Additional Injury Notes Around the League
Atlanta Hawks: Guard Trae Young (right quad contusion) has been ruled out for a third straight game and will not play Friday at Madison Square Garden. He was initially listed as questionable, suggesting the injury is considered day-to-day.
Sacramento Kings: Zach LaVine will miss his ninth consecutive contest on Friday against the Phoenix Suns due to a left ankle sprain. Head coach Doug Christie said Thursday there is no new timetable for the guard’s return.
Detroit Pistons: Tobias Harris (left hip sprain) and Caris LeVert (left knee inflammation) were sidelined for Thursday’s loss to the Miami Heat. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff noted that LeVert’s knee issue has lingered all season and flared up this week, while additional information on Harris is expected in the coming days.
