The Dallas Mavericks will face the Utah Jazz on Saturday without eight players, the club announced on social media. Dante Exum, Dereck Lively II, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg (left ankle sprain), Daniel Gafford (right ankle sprain), D’Angelo Russell (illness) and P.J. Washington (personal reasons) are all unavailable. Flagg, last year’s No. 1 draft pick, is missing his second consecutive game. Washington had been listed as probable with “right ankle injury management,” while Russell was scratched late.
Elsewhere around the NBA:
Trail Blazers
Forward Deni Avdija will sit out a third straight game Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a lower back strain suffered on January 11. Portland upgraded Jerami Grant and Jrue Holiday to probable after both were initially questionable.
Timberwolves
All-Star guard Anthony Edwards is set to return Saturday following a two-game absence caused by right foot injury management. Center Rudy Gobert, dealing with a left hip contusion, is listed as questionable for the matchup in San Antonio. The Timberwolves played in Houston on Friday, creating a quick turnaround for the four-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Nets
Brooklyn will be without Michael Porter Jr. (rest) and rookie Drake Powell (left knee injury management) Sunday in Chicago, the first game of a back-to-back that concludes Monday at home against Phoenix. Porter was held out under similar circumstances last weekend.
