Several NBA clubs issued medical updates on Wednesday, outlining timetables for key players working their way back to the floor.
Heat
Shooting guard Tyler Herro, sidelined by a right big-toe contusion, is on Miami’s three-game road swing that opens Thursday in Brooklyn. The 25-year-old has missed three of the past four contests and said persistent swelling remains an issue after he practiced during the team’s recent five-day layoff. “I probably shouldn’t have practiced,” Herro acknowledged, adding that he is focused on reducing inflammation before deciding when to play.
Forward Nikola Jovic described himself as “week-to-week” after suffering a right elbow contusion and laceration in Monday’s game. The 6-10 sophomore received stitches but avoided structural damage. “I was scared I broke my arm,” Jovic said, noting he cannot yet grip objects but expects to return soon.
Hawks
Point guard Trae Young (sprained MCL) moved a step closer to the court. Out since Oct. 29, the two-time All-Star practiced Tuesday with G League affiliate College Park before rejoining Atlanta on Wednesday for an NBA workout.
Magic
Orlando will start its four-game Western Conference trip Thursday in Denver without Franz Wagner (left high-ankle sprain) and Moritz Wagner (ACL recovery). Both remain in Florida for rehab. Guard Jalen Suggs (left hip contusion) is traveling but did little in Wednesday’s practice, head coach Jamahl Mosley said.
Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards (right foot injury maintenance) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s matchup with Memphis after missing Minnesota’s last two games. Veteran guard Mike Conley will sit out a third consecutive contest because of right Achilles tendinopathy.
Bulls
Chicago guard Ayo Dosunmu hopes to play Wednesday against Cleveland following a two-game absence. Both of Dosunmu’s thumbs are sprained and taped, and he also carries a bone bruise on his right thumb, injuries he said will be managed through pain tolerance.
