A proposed deal floated by Hoops Wire would move forward Jerami Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Los Angeles Lakers while sending Rui Hachimura to Portland.
Grant, 31, is entering the third season of a five-year, $160 million contract he signed in 2023. He is owed $32 million for the coming campaign and is under contract through 2028. Last season, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 40.2 percent from three-point range.
The hypothetical swap envisions Grant’s two-way ability complementing a Lakers core that, per the report, includes Luka Doncic, LeBron James and recent additions Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart.
Hachimura, 27, is in the second year of a three-year, $51 million deal that runs through 2026. He posted 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds a game last season, hitting 53 percent from the field and 42 percent from deep. The proposal suggests his size, shooting touch and shorter contract could fit Portland’s rotation alongside young guards Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe.
For Los Angeles, the decision would hinge on whether Grant’s experience and larger salary outweigh Hachimura’s steadiness and lower cost. Portland, meanwhile, would be weighing the benefit of salary flexibility and a younger forward against the loss of a proven veteran.
Any trade would ultimately depend on each front office’s priorities, but the concept is presented as a potential win-win for both sides.
