The Charlotte Hornets released forward Drew Peterson from his two-way contract, the club announced in a press release on December 24, 2025.
The move keeps Charlotte’s 15-man standard roster intact while creating an open two-way spot alongside guards KJ Simpson and Antonio Reeves. According to reports, the Hornets intend to promote G League center PJ Hall to fill the vacancy.
Peterson, 26, went undrafted out of USC in 2023 and spent most of his first two NBA seasons on two-way deals with the Boston Celtics before signing with Charlotte last summer. Over 34 NBA appearances with Boston and Charlotte, the 6-8 forward has averaged 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.0 minutes per game.
This fall, Peterson logged just six brief appearances for the Hornets but played a larger role for the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s G League affiliate. In nine games with the Swarm, he averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.9 steals in 32.1 minutes, shooting 42.5 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from three-point range.
Because the transaction occurred before the league-wide salary-guarantee date of January 7, Peterson will receive only a prorated portion of his two-way salary.
