The Charlotte Hornets have signed free-agent guard Marcus Garrett and waived forward Brandon Slater, the organization announced on Saturday.
Contract details were not disclosed, but league norms suggest Garrett’s deal is likely an Exhibit 10 agreement. That structure would make the 26-year-old eligible for a bonus of up to $85,300 if he is released before opening night and then spends at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.
Garrett went undrafted out of Kansas in 2021 and appeared in 12 NBA games as a rookie on a two-way contract with the Miami Heat. He has spent most of his professional career in the G League, including the past two seasons with Greensboro. In March, Charlotte brought him in on a 10-day hardship contract, during which he logged four NBA appearances and averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds across 19.8 minutes.
Known for his defensive versatility, the 6-foot-5 guard played 42 games for the Swarm during the 2024-25 G League season, averaging 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals in 29.7 minutes while shooting 45.1% from the field.
Slater, 24, had been competing for a roster spot after joining the Hornets earlier in the offseason. His release opens a camp slot as Charlotte continues shaping its roster ahead of training camp.
