Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball delivered 37 efficient points in Sunday’s victory over the Washington Wizards, underscoring what head coach Charles Lee called a season-long rise in maturity and winning habits.

“I love it,” Lee said after the game. “He’s impacting winning in a lot of different ways.”

Picking his spots

Ball emphasized that his focus was on locating the best shots rather than forcing the offense. The result: a career-high 10 three-pointers, tying the franchise mark and moving him into third place on the Hornets’ all-time list for made threes.

The 22-year-old became only the second player in NBA history to post at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes or fewer, according to the team.

Help around him

Context has changed for Ball. Brandon Miller is healthy, and rookie Kon Knueppel has exceeded early expectations, giving Charlotte additional scoring options. Ball’s shooting percentages—40.1 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from beyond the arc—mirror his career norms, yet he is attempting fewer shots and showing greater trust in teammates.

Beyond offense

Lee also highlighted Ball’s defensive engagement and willingness to make the right play regardless of who is scoring, a shift for a player long labeled offense-first. The Hornets believe that balance is translating into wins as they push deeper into the season.
