Charlotte, NC — The Charlotte Hornets announced Wednesday that veteran center Mason Plumlee has undergone surgery to repair a right groin injury and will be reevaluated in six weeks.
The recovery timetable projects Plumlee to miss a minimum of 22 games, keeping him out until at least Feb. 11. The club did not commit to a firm return date.
Plumlee, 35, joined Charlotte over the summer on a one-year, minimum-salary deal to bolster depth behind young centers Ryan Kalkbrenner and Moussa Diabate. The 2023 first-round pick has appeared in 874 regular-season games during his career and is averaging 1.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 8.9 minutes across 14 outings this season.
Charlotte’s frontcourt remains thin. Kalkbrenner will sit out a fifth consecutive game Wednesday with a left elbow sprain, prompting newly signed two-way player PJ Hall to serve as Diabate’s primary backup.
The Hornets also ruled out forward Miles Bridges (right ankle sprain) for Wednesday’s contest against Golden State. Rookie guard Kon Knueppel, however, is expected to return after missing Monday’s game with a sprained ankle.
