The Charlotte Hornets are set to bring in former NBA and international coach Will Weaver as a coaching advisor to newly appointed head coach Charles Lee, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Weaver, 40, spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets, marking his second stint with that franchise. His NBA résumé also includes assistant roles with the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers. In college basketball, he worked on staffs at Sam Houston State and the University of Texas.

Outside the NBA, Weaver guided Paris Basketball in France’s top division during the 2022-23 campaign, led the Sydney Kings in Australia’s National Basketball League, and coached the Long Island Nets in the NBA G League. He earned G League Coach of the Year honors in 2018-19 after steering Long Island to a 34-16 record and a Finals appearance.

Charlotte is overhauling its bench after finishing 19-63 last season. Former head coach Steve Clifford departed in June to become an advisor to the Phoenix Suns, paving the way for Lee, the former Milwaukee Bucks assistant, to take charge.

Weaver’s appointment still requires final approval, but once completed, he will join a staff tasked with accelerating the development of the Hornets’ young core.
