The Miami Heat announced Friday that forward Haywood Highsmith has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for approximately eight to 10 weeks.
Highsmith sustained the injury during a recent workout in his hometown of Baltimore. Team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick performed the procedure in Miami on Friday, according to the club’s statement on social media.
The 27-year-old will begin rehabilitation immediately. With NBA training camps set to open in about seven and a half weeks, the recovery timeline makes it unlikely he will be available when the Heat convene for preseason practices, and his status for the start of the regular season remains in doubt.
Highsmith is entering the final year of his contract, which will pay him roughly $5.6 million in 2025-26. Last season he appeared in a career-high 74 games, averaging 24.6 minutes, 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 45.8% from the field, 38.2% from three-point range and 72.1% from the free-throw line.
