Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is expected to miss roughly two months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, the team announced Friday.
The injury occurred during a recent workout in Highsmith’s hometown of Baltimore. Team physician Dr. Harlan Selesnick performed the procedure in Miami, and the 27-year-old will begin rehabilitation immediately. The Heat estimate his recovery time at eight to 10 weeks.
Training camp opens in about seven and a half weeks, making it unlikely Highsmith will be available when the team begins practices. His return could also extend beyond the start of the regular season.
The setback comes as Highsmith enters the final year of his contract, worth approximately $5.6 million for 2025-26. Last season he appeared in a career-high 74 games, averaging 24.6 minutes, 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 45.8% from the field and 38.2% from three-point range. Although valued for his length and defensive versatility, he moved in and out of head coach Erik Spoelstra’s rotation and spent stretches outside the starting lineup.
